Ask anyone from the UK and they will tell you sweets UK is the way to go. Ask anyone from the U.S. and they will tell you there is nothing quite like American deserts and candy. So which is the best route to take when you are having an itching for some chocolate, tarts or sweet candy galore?
As with any food category, there is no true way to settle this argument as everyone is going to have a different response. Some people are cookie monsters while others prefer sweet tarts. Regardless of which way you favor, you are bound to find a little bit of something from both the U.K. and the U.S.
Each culture has its own values, its own flavors and its own artists to create the masterpieces that can be so bad yet so good for us at the same time. You will find the British tend to take a more conservative approach than Americans in just about every way, including sweets U.K. However, there are many similarities you can find with the candy as well.
With the British taking on a conservative role, a lot of times they have preserved most of their traditional sweets shops. You will be able to find some stuff online with a lot of retro sweets taking to the internet.
Staying with this theme, sweets U.K. certainly go years back with a vast collection of retro sweets being sold here. It is a great way for adults to bring back their childhood while children can get a taste of the past. Some of the top brands for sweets to keep in mind include Bassetts, Jelly Babies, sherbet fountain and pontefract cakes.
As you look at the American culture and the sweets available to choose from, there are retro candies as well like gobstoppers, fun-dips and lollipops. But chocolate continues to dominate the market with everything from Snickers to Kit-Kats and cake to ice cream. Wonka brands are by far the highest selling retro brand thanks to the movie Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory.
The bottom line is there is no real answer as to whom does it best. Sweets U.K. and American candy all have their own style and flavor, and you may have a taste bud for both cultures. If you are going to go retro, the U.K. tends to have the advantage. But the options from the U.S. seem to trump the British with a little bit of something for everyone to indulge over.
